A calm first decision
Would personal coaching suit your child?
Private coaching is a format, not a promise of faster progress. It can be useful when a child benefits from focused instruction, an individually arranged appointment or time centred on one appropriate goal.
Consider a personal lesson when your child…
- would value the coach’s attention centred on their current level;
- prefers a quieter starting point before, or alongside, group classes;
- wants focused practice on a suitable foundation or skill goal;
- benefits from explanations and progressions adjusted during the lesson;
- needs an individually arranged appointment rather than a fixed class.
This service is not designed for…
- a regular social group experience with peers;
- flips, back handsprings, trampoline or advanced tumbling at the studio;
- medical rehabilitation, physiotherapy or therapeutic provision;
- specialist disability support or care beyond the normal lesson;
- a guaranteed skill, confidence, fitness or development result.
Purposeful individual coaching
Four areas a personal lesson can support
The content depends on the child and the agreed goal. These are areas of practice, not guaranteed outcomes or a fixed curriculum.
Movement foundations
Practise useful shapes, safe landings, balance, coordination and body positions at an appropriate level.
Body control
Develop clearer awareness of posture, alignment, timing and how different parts of the body work together.
Skill-focused practice
Spend focused time on a suitable roll, cartwheel, handstand, balance or related progression.
Confidence to participate
Build familiarity through manageable tasks and calm feedback, without promising a particular emotional result.
Age-appropriate formats
A lesson length that matches the child’s age
The age bands provide a clear starting structure. The exercises and pace are still adapted during the booked session.
45-minute personal lesson
A shorter format suited to younger children’s attention, energy and early movement foundations.
60-minute personal lesson
More time for preparation, focused skill practice, strength, flexibility and an unhurried finish.

Private gymnastics lessons FAQ
Clear answers about age, formats, venues, skills, prices and booking.
What age can my child start personal gymnastics lessons?
KCGA’s published children’s personal lessons are for ages 5–11. Ages 5–6 normally receive 45 minutes and ages 7–11 receive 60 minutes.
Are personal lessons suitable for complete beginners?
Yes, when the format and venue are suitable for the child. No entry skill is required, and the lesson begins from the child’s current ability.
Does one-to-one coaching guarantee faster progress?
No. Focused feedback and practice may help some children, but progress depends on the child, the goal, consistency, readiness and many other factors.
Where do lessons take place?
The Kensington Studio at 24A Radley Mews is the primary venue. St Philip’s Church and Park Walk School may sometimes be available by arrangement; they do not have a published personal-lesson timetable.
Will anyone else be in The Kensington Studio?
Possibly. Stefan’s coaching attention is centred on the booked child, but other trainers or clients may be present in the shared facility.
Can a parent watch the lesson?
The studio has a small reception bench, subject to current arrangements. Ask KCGA before booking if remaining nearby is important to your family.
What skills can my child practise?
Depending on age, readiness, venue and goal, lessons may include jumps, landings, balance, rolls, cartwheel or handstand progressions, strength and flexibility.
Do you teach flips or back handsprings?
No. The studio has no tumble track or trampoline, and flips, back handsprings and advanced tumbling are not taught there.
Can two children share a lesson?
Possibly, when their ages, levels and goals are compatible. Shared-session prices are £120 for one, £550 for five and £1000 for ten; KCGA must confirm suitability first.
How much does one-child coaching cost?
A short 30-minute session is £70 when appropriate. A single age-based lesson is £100; five cost £450 and ten cost £800.
What is the cancellation policy?
Sessions are paid in advance. With at least 48 hours’ notice, a cancellation may be rescheduled subject to availability. Later cancellations are charged in full and are non-refundable.
Can my child combine group and personal lessons?
Yes, when both formats are suitable and available. Group classes provide a regular peer environment, while occasional personal lessons can focus on an individual priority.
Does private coaching include specialist disability provision?
No. One-to-one describes the coaching format; it does not mean specialist disability, therapeutic or care provision. Families seeking that support can use the British Gymnastics disability gymnastics information and club finder.
How should I enquire?
Message KCGA with your child’s age, general gymnastics experience, the main goal and the dates or times that may work. Do not send detailed medical information in the first marketing enquiry.
A simple first step
Tell Stefan what your child would like to practise
Share your child’s age, general experience, the main goal and the dates or times that could work. KCGA will confirm whether a personal lesson and currently available venue are suitable.
