Choose the right adult format

Is a weekly adult group class right for you?

You do not need previous experience, a handstand or a particular level of strength or flexibility. The main decision is whether a fixed weekly timetable and coached social setting suit the way you want to train.

A good fit

Choose adult group classes if you…

  • are a complete beginner or returning to gymnastics;
  • want structured coaching in a supportive adult group;
  • can attend a published Tuesday or Friday class during term time;
  • want to develop strength, mobility, body control and suitable skills;
  • enjoy practising alongside adults working at different levels.
Another route may fit better

Consider personal lessons if you need…

  • an appointment outside the fixed group timetable;
  • the full booked lesson focused on your individual goal;
  • a quieter one-to-one starting point before joining a group;
  • highly targeted work on one strength, flexibility or skill priority;
  • a private-versus-group discussion before deciding.

Train with purpose

Strength, mobility and skills that develop together

Gymnastics connects physical qualities that are often trained separately. Coaches select progressions for the adults in front of them, without promising a fixed result or deadline.

Whole-body strength

Use scaled gymnastics conditioning for the core, shoulders, arms, hips and coordinated body tension.

Useful mobility

Work on controlled range through positions that support your current class theme and movement goals.

Body control

Develop clearer shapes, balance, coordination and confidence through coached repetition.

Gymnastics skills

Explore suitable progressions towards handstands, rolls, cartwheels, bridges and other foundations.

Progress is individual. Adults can work on different versions of the same class theme. No participant is expected to perform a skill before an appropriate progression is ready.

Inside the class

A clear rhythm with room for different levels

The exact exercises change with the class focus and the adults attending. This example explains the delivered structure without turning it into a rigid programme.

No pressure to perform: the purpose is coached practice and steady development, not comparison with another gymnast.
  1. Preparation and mobilityRaise body temperature and prepare the joints, shapes and movement patterns needed that evening.
  2. Coached skill themePractise a shared focus through level-appropriate progressions and clear technical cues.
  3. Gymnastics conditioningBuild relevant strength and control through short, purposeful bodyweight exercises.
  4. Mobility and finishUse controlled flexibility or recovery work and finish with a clear sense of the session focus.

Real gymnastics, scaled appropriately

What you may train in an adult group class

Class content can combine floor foundations, strength, flexibility and recognisable skills. The coaching team decides which progressions and equipment suit the session.

Skills and movement

Progressions may include

  • Handstand shapes, wall work and balance progressions
  • Forward, backward and sideways floor foundations
  • Cartwheel, bridge and suitable walkover preparation
  • Body shapes, balance and coordinated transitions
  • Active flexibility linked to the class focus
Strength and set-up

Coached work may use

  • Floor and landing mats
  • Gymnastics conditioning and partner-safe stations
  • Mini wooden bars and fitness rings
  • Core, shoulder and whole-body strength progressions
  • The spacious St Philip’s Church hall set-up
Honest scope: published class themes and apparatus use can change. Enquire about a specific advanced skill before joining rather than assuming it is taught in the standard group session.

Questions before a trial

Adult group gymnastics FAQ

Practical answers about starting, weekly attendance, costs and choosing the right adult format.

Are the adult classes suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Complete beginners are welcome. Coaches provide progressions appropriate to the adults attending, and you do not need a handstand, cartwheel or previous gymnastics experience before your trial.

What age are the adult group classes for?

The published adult group classes are for ages 18 and over. The class includes adults with different backgrounds and levels.

Do I need to be strong or flexible before I start?

No particular entry level of strength or flexibility is required. The class is where you begin developing those qualities through suitable coached progressions.

When and where are the adult classes?

Adult classes run on Tuesday and Friday from 7:30–8:20 pm during school terms at St Philip’s Church, Earl’s Court Road, London W8 6QH. Availability is confirmed when you enquire.

What should I wear and bring?

For your trial, wear comfortable sports clothing that allows free movement and bring water. Avoid jewellery and clothing with hard fastenings. Once enrolled, gymnasts must wear the compulsory KCGA club T-shirt during regular classes; purchase arrangements and the current cost are confirmed after joining.

What skills might the class cover?

Depending on the class focus, work may include handstand progressions, rolls, cartwheels, bridges, body shapes, conditioning, mobility and other suitable foundations. A particular advanced skill is not guaranteed within the standard group programme.

How much does adult group gymnastics cost?

An adult trial costs £40. A twelve-week term costs £480, and annual British Gymnastics insurance is £24 for a new gymnast. The KCGA club T-shirt is also compulsory after enrolment; its current cost and purchase arrangements are confirmed after joining.

What happens if I miss a class?

Missed group classes cannot be carried over or refunded. Once a term place is confirmed, the term fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Read the current Terms & Conditions before payment.

Would a personal adult lesson suit me better?

Personal lessons may fit better if you need flexible available-slot booking, want the full lesson centred on one goal or prefer a one-to-one introduction. The adult group is better suited to a fixed weekly class and social coached environment.

How do I arrange a trial?

Send KCGA a WhatsApp message saying you are interested in the adult group and whether Tuesday or Friday is preferable. KCGA will confirm the appropriate class, current availability and payment details.
