KCGA at the International Masters Competition in Cambridge, USA

On 2 June 2024, Dr Stefan Kolimechkov, Director of Kensington & Chelsea Gymnastics Academy (KCGA), represented both KCGA as an individual gymnast and the Great Britain Masters Team at the 2024 Masters Gymnastics World Cup in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA). Stefan scored 13.400 and took the 12th place on the Rings in the world. Full results and more information about his performance in the USA are available on STK SPORT.

Masters gymnastics is an internationally recognised pathway for experienced gymnasts aged 30 and above who continue to train and compete at a high technical level. While distinct from elite Olympic-pathway competitions and organised by dedicated international communities rather than global federations, Masters events celebrate technical mastery, longevity, and lifelong participation in sport.

From a sports science perspective, Masters gymnastics offers valuable insight into how correct foundations, intelligent progression, and injury-aware training allow athletes to remain active for decades. This understanding directly informs KCGA’s children’s programmes, where long-term physical development, safety, and enjoyment are prioritised over short-term outcomes.

Dr Kolimechkov’s participation at international Masters level reflects KCGA’s core philosophy: gymnastics taught correctly builds strong, confident movers for life. The principles required to perform safely at an advanced age — precision, control, patience, and resilience — are the same principles that underpin KCGA’s science-backed recreational gymnastics programmes for children in Kensington & Chelsea.

For families seeking high-quality children’s sports activities in West London, this experience reinforces KCGA’s commitment to delivering coaching that is informed by real-world performance experience and evidence-based child development.

This performance on Still Rings highlights the control, strength, and technical precision developed through years of intelligent training. At KCGA, these same principles are carefully adapted for children, supporting safe physical development, confidence, and a lifelong enjoyment of sport.

🌍 A Global Perspective on Lifelong Gymnastics

The 2024 Masters Gymnastics World Cup was more than an international competition, it was a powerful reminder of what is possible when movement is taught correctly and nurtured over a lifetime. Athletes from around the world came together in Cambridge, USA, united by a shared passion for gymnastics, technical excellence, and lifelong participation in sport.

For Kensington & Chelsea Gymnastics Academy, this event reinforced the importance of patience, precision, and intelligent progression, principles that sit at the core of how we coach children every day. Masters gymnastics demonstrates that with the right foundations, sport can remain a source of health, confidence, and joy well into adulthood.

🧠 From Lifelong Sport to Children’s Development

At KCGA, we believe that how children are taught matters far more than how early they are pushed. The experience of training and competing internationally as a Masters gymnast highlights the long-term impact of safe strength development, correct technique, and thoughtful coaching.

Under the leadership of Dr Stefan Kolimechkov, a published sports scientist and international Masters gymnast, KCGA’s programmes are designed to support children’s physical development in a structured, age-appropriate way. Our goal is not early specialisation, but to help children build coordination, confidence, and resilience that will support them in gymnastics, and any sport they choose, for life.

🏫 Inspiring the Next Generation in Kensington & Chelsea
